A strong resume is an essential job search tool. There are many resources available to you if you want to work on either creating a new or updating your old resume. Waubonsee College Career Center has staff at both the Sugar Grove and Aurora Campus sites who can work with you one on one. Contact Anderson Lee or Amanda Davis, Career Services Advisors at 630-466-55708 for an appointment.
For quick assistance, you can come to the ACTC anytime between 9-1 on Mondays through Thursdays. The area outside the ACTC classroom is an open lab, and there are people there who can help you. Lori Hairell can help you search for jobs online, and work with your resume. Cathy Flesh (SER) is available Mon-Thur at the site, and she can assist you with getting your resume together and searching for that elusive new job. (Open labs do not require a registration, just come in anytime between 9-1 M-TH).
Of course, the ACTC also runs Resume Writing and Job Preparation classes, in addition to skills classes like Math Review for the job applications that require you to pass a math test. Check our schedule for the next available classes. If you need help with getting a job, there is plenty of available assistance right here.

Waubonsee to Host Job Fair
Waubonsee Community College will host its annual Spring Job/Internship Fair on Thursday, April 7, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Academic and Professional Center on the college’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.
The event is free and open to the public. Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring plenty of résumés.

Given the current economic climate, this year’s fair takes on increased importance. It is part of Waubonsee’s larger “Brighter Futures” initiative, which seeks to provide resources and strategies to help district residents thrive in a challenging economy. Visit www.waubonsee.edu/brighterfutures to view a list of other upcoming events and get information on a variety of free resources, including a special $500 scholarship for unemployed district residents.

Spring Forward! New ACTC Classes on Schedule
The schedule for April, May and June is available, and has some new classes to help you spring forward with your technology skills. Level 103 and 104 Excel classes (April 18 and 25, 6-8PM) are new, and they move you beyond the previous Excel level by adding skills such as:

Managing Multiple Workbooks
Protecting Worksheets and Workbooks
Linking Workbooks
Unlocking Individual Cells
Freeze and Unfreeze Panes
Excel 104:
Tables and Charts
Analyzing and Filtering Data
Pivot Table Reports
Report Layout Options
And if you want to be in the know, you know you have to go the the Clouds...and Google Docs can give you the skills needed to get there. Cloud computing is actually using the Internet for storage and file sharing, and Google Docs makes that easy to do. Also, Access (April 26 and 28, 2-4) will take you to the next level of Office after
One last note: the instructor for Quick Books will not be teaching after April 22, so if you want to take Quick Books, 'hop quick as a bunny' to the online registration and sign up for the last QB classes we'll be doing this year. April 11,13,18 and 20 (11-1) are Quick Books Classes, and the Accounting 101 and 102 classes are
April 4 and April 6 (11-1). The Accounting classes will give people without a base in accounting more success in Quick Books by understanding the terms and vocabulary used in the class.
And always, if you are new to computing or feeling a little rusty, Absolutely Basics and Computer Fundamentals will catch you up, as well as classes in using the Internet and Email. Whatever your skill level, the ACTC is here to kick it up a notch and make your resume more effective.
